I’d say the most challenging part about creating a detailed craft sculpture is striking a delicate balance between technical precision and emotional expression. But at the same time, you can’t lose the soul of the piece. If I focus too much on the details, the sculpture feels stiff, like a photograph taken without a heartbeat. Another major challenge is the material itself. Clay dries, metal hardens, wax melts—each has its own timeline and quirks. On a recent floral-inspired piece, I spent three hours shaping a single rose petal, only to have a tiny air bubble ruin the surface when I pressed too hard. Fixing it required rehydrating the clay and starting over, which tested my patience like nothing else.
